Fred Z of Z Product Guy brings over 16 years of music industry experience and technical expertise. Originally from Washington, DC, by way of Cleveland, OH, and now Los Angeles Fred has always been involved in music on many levels, as a producer, songwriter, musician and consultant. In his early years as a sales associate at West L.A Music formerly known as Goodmans, a good friend and mentor thought he had what it took to become a product specialist, coupled with a demand from supporting dealers, sales staff and end users to better understand the products they were using Z Product Guy was born. Under the Z Product Guy umbrella Fred Z feels fortunate to represent some of the top lines which include Universal Audio, EMES monitors; Focal loudspeakers, Magix, makers of Samplitude and Sequoia software (exceptionally known for recording high-resolution audio, mixing, editing and mastering), Algorithmix plug-ins for mastering and audio restoration, Synthax, Sterling Modular creators of fine studio furniture, Dangerous Music (world-famous for the Dangerous 2-Bus, the first true analog summing box!), Studio Electronics known for true analog synths like the ever-popular SE-1X and Equation Audio that makes exceptional headphones and dynamic microphones.
In his early years, Fred served as the technical sound director for Tevin Campbell; production manager for Johnny Gill; and studio developer for multi-platinum producer DeVante of Jodeci. Fred Z has written for numerous recording artists including the song "Who Do You Tell" from Tamia's debut album.
Indirectly, Fred can be attributed for nearly all hip-hop and R&B records produced over the last decade due to his creation for EMU of the sound development and sound libraries for the PlanetPHATT, MOPHATT, and EMUlator X rack-mounted modules and for his sound design for ALESIS. These sound libraries and modules have been used in nearly all recordings by mega-producers worldwide and rarely would one meet a producer or recording engineer who has not created using these instruments.
Fred Z has been responsible for the technical sound design, component implementation, and infrastructure of some of today's most popular recording studios and some of the best
engineers and producers in music. He lends his talent and skills to not only present cutting-edge products but also to educate his many friends and clients who want to put together a studio, mobile rig or virtually anything in audio.
